Always look on the bright side of life!

It's quite a few months since my last Blog (Remember, I used to do a Blog?) but, what experiences I have had in that time! Some family matters have affected me in ways that I will not discuss but have led me to discontinue with Facebook. Sorry. I miss the banter, conversation, laughs and sadness that FB brings but there are other things that I don't like and they have overwhelmed my thoughts. Thank you for all the conversations I have had with you all.
One other reason I miss FB is the information I find on there that helped me with my Nickisson Family Tree. Information about birthdays, weddings etc. that enabled me to update, amend, cross out and add to, but more about the family tree later.

Always look on the bright side of life; A blonde wanting to earn some extra money for the summer, decided to hire herself out as a 'handy woman' and started canvassing a nearby well-to-do neighbourhood. She went to the front door of the first house and asked the owner if he had any odd jobs for her to do.
"Well I guess I could use somebody to paint the porch' he said, "How much will you charge me?"
Delighted, the girl quickly responded, "How about $50?"
The man agreed and told her that the paint, brushes and everything she would need were in the garage.
The man's wife, hearing the conversation, said to her husband, "Does she realise that our porch goes all the way around the house?"
"That's a bit cynical, isn't it?" he responded.
The wife replied, "you're right. I guess I'm starting to believe all those dumb blonde jokes."
A few hours later the blonde came to collect her money...
"You're finished already??" the startled husband asked.
"Yes," the blonde replied, "and I even had enough paint left over so I gave it two coats."
Impressed, the man reached into his pocket for the $50 and handed it to her along with a $10 tip.

"Thank you," the blonde said, "And, by the way, it's not a Porch, it's an Audi."

YES. Always look on the bright side of life.... that's what needs to happen and plenty of happiness has come my way over the last five Blogless months.

I don't know if you remember but I did a Blog last year (Surprise, Surprise) when my grandson Joseph arrived in Australia and I wasn't aware that he was coming over. Then, the surprises continued when, unknown to me, Sue arranged a trip to England to surprise her mum on her 70th birthday.
Well the surprises continued this year when Sue arranged a holiday to Singapore in July to co-inside with Stoke City playing in the Asia Trophy competition. Never been to Singapore before and it was a really fantastic place to visit, definitely go again.

Some of the places we visited.

Some of the famous people we met

I don't know what Sue intended to do with Mr Beckham???

But it put a smile on her face!!!!!!!

And then we saw my football team, Stoke City

Brilliant holiday

The bright side of life; An elderly couple had just learned how to send text messages on their mobile phones. The wife was a romantic type and the husband was more of a no-nonsense guy.
One afternoon the wife went out to meet a friend for coffee. She decided to send her husband a romantic text message and she wrote:
"If  you are sleeping, send me your dreams. If you are laughing, send me your smile. If you are eating, send me a bite. If you are drinking, send me a sip. If you are crying, send me your tears. I love you."

The husband texted back to her: "I'm on the toilet. Please advise."

In August we went to Penang, Malaysia for a week, again a new place to visit and it was a very relaxing holiday, much needed to escape the emotions of family life. Although we visited a few tourist attractions it was good to stay by the hotel pool and chill out.

It was also our 20th wedding anniversary whilst we were there.
Another brilliant holiday, thank you Sue.

Yes, definitely. Always look on the bright side of life....... It's so true, we may not think so at the time, but life is so much better when you do.

Talking about wedding anniversaries; A married couple in their early 60s are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in a quiet romantic restaurant. Suddenly, a tiny yet beautiful fairy appeared on their table.
She said, "for being such an exemplary married couple and for being so loving to each other for all this time, I will grant you each a wish."
The wife answered, "Oh, I want to travel around the world with my darling husband."
The fairy waved her magic wand and - poof! - two tickets for the Queen Mary 11 appeared in her hand.
The husband thought for a moment: "Well, this is all very romantic, but an opportunity like this will never come again. I'm sorry my love, but my wish is to have a wife 30 years younger than me."
The wife, and the fairy, were deeply disappointed, but a wish is a wish.!
So the fairy waved her magic wand and - poof! -

The husband became 92 years old.

I only have to look around my garden to be happy about life. I have really enjoyed the last 3 years getting it to look how it does.
The front garden

My favourite flower at the moment - Leucospermum Cordifolium 'Yellow'.
The back Garden

And the 'allotment'

Potatoes, Carrots, Onions, Lettuce, Radish, Turnips, Strawberries, Spring Onions, Chillies, Peppers, Cucumber and Leeks are growing really well. Spring has warmed the soil up and the early summer days are now with us so it is ideal conditions for plants to grow. Days are about 25-30 Deg's dropping in the evenings to 10-12 Deg's. I was also growing Cabbage and Cauliflower but the warmer weather caused them to bolt before they were suitable for eating. Since I have raised the beds and added over 60 bags of good compost, the plants have grown far better, looking forward to harvesting the remaining crops.

Just the bright side of life; A man on his motorcycle was riding along a California beach highway when suddenly the heavens open up above him and in a booming voice, God said “because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish”
The Biker pulled over and said “build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride there anytime I want”
God replied, “your request is materialistic; think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking: supports required reaching the bottom of the pacific and the concrete and steel it would take! I can do it but hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help mankind.”
The Biker thought about it for a long time. Finally he said, “God I wish that I and all men could understand women; I want to know how she feels inside, what she’s thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing’s wrong, why she snaps and complains when I try and help, and how I can truly make a woman truly happy.”

God replied: "you want four lanes or six on that bridge...?"

Now the warmer weather is with us, the pool has been cleaned and the cover is back on to warm the water up ready for the first plunge of the season, perhaps this weekend?

Another, bright side of life.

One of the advantages of the Autumn/Winter months is that, although the days are still quite warm, we spend more time inside the house and this has given me the chance to spend more time on the Nickisson Family Tree. I mentioned in my last Blog that I needed to buy some certificates to help me get the suitable information that will hopefully help me to overcome some 'brick walls'. Nine certificates purchased and received, any help with those brick walls?

Marriage Certificate for Agnes Fryer and Harold Banks:
I wanted this one because I had no information on Harold Banks before he married Agnes. The marriage certificate gave me his father's name and occupation which enabled me to find out when Harold was born and the correct 1901 and 1911 census records to show where he lived and what his occupation was. Further more, I also found that he served in the First World War through his service record.
Marriage Certificate for Fanny Emily Nickisson and John Harvey:
This again was to find out more information about John Harvey's previous life before marrying Fanny Emily. Although I have more information to help me, I'm still researching this one. One success with this marriage certificate was that one of the witnesses to the wedding is a Polly Nickisson. She is one of my 'brick walls' and because of this information, I now know that she was still alive at a later date than previously thought.
Marriage Certificate for Graham Brookes Chadwick and Catherine M Smith:
Marriage Certificate for Louisa (Louie) Nickisson and Claude Sydney Phipps:
Marriage Certificate for Lancelot Chadwick and Elizabeth Mountford:
The information from this certificates cleared up all my outstanding issues for each of these persons.
Death Certificate for William Davies:
Again, cleared up all my questions about William but gave me a few extra ones about his wife, Margaret Devlin. I believe she was born in Northern Ireland around 1910. Anyone out there know anymore?
Death Certificate for Ethel (Briggs) Nickisson:
This helped me with all outstanding issues for Ethel and also her husband John William Nickisson.
Birth Certificate for James Nickisson:
This was my one and only failure. It concluded that James did not belong to my Nickisson Family Tree.
Death Certificate for Ralph (Steel) Steele:
This was probably the most successful certificate for gathering information. It gave me his date of death, where he was living at the time which enabled me to find out where his wife, Sarah Tipper, spent the rest of her life.

Lots of questions answered, a few more questions raised but a very successful outcome.

One of the outcomes from above was the information on Sarah Tipper. For a very long time I have been researching my Great Great Grandmother, Ann Tipper, and this information helped me to knock down another 'brick wall'. More on that in my next Blog.

A Vicar goes to the dentist for a set of false teeth. The first Sunday after he gets his new teeth, his sermon only lasts for eight minutes.
The second Sunday, he talks for only ten minutes. The following Sunday, he talks for 2 hours and 48 minutes.
The congregation had to help him to get him down from the pulpit and they asked him what happened.
The Vicar explains the first Sunday his gums hurt so bad he couldn't talk for more than 8 minutes. The second Sunday his gums hurt too much to talk for more than 10 minutes.

But, the third Sunday, he put his wife's' teeth in by mistake and he couldn't shut up...........................

Yes, Always look on the bright side of life. Reading through this Blog after I had finished it, really proved to me that there is more to life than dwelling on those down times.

What next?

We are really looking forward to Diane (Sue's mum) and Allan coming over to Oz to spend Christmas with us.

What will next year bring........ More surprises?

Speak to you soon
